Homemade Laundry Soap

Powdered Laundry Soap

  • 1 bar of grated Fel's Naptha Soap (or Ivory or Kirk's Castile Soap)
  • 1 cup of Washing Soda (not baking soda)
  • 1 cup of Borax (omit for washing delicates)

Grate the bar of soap using the finest side on your cheese grater. You want it to be like a powder. Add Washing Soda and Borax (if using). Stir and store in an airtight container. Very easy!! Use 1/2 - 1 TBSP per load. Start with 1/2 tablespoon for lightly soiled loads and 1 tablespoon for more heavily soiled loads. I have heard this soap is great for HE or front loading machines because there is little or no sudsing, however I have not tried it.

Use Mrs. Stewart's Blueing with your whites, to prevent them from becoming dingy & gray.

Here are a couple websites that take you step by step to make liquid laundry soap.
